Vision & Motto:

Vision: We, at Fair Avenue Elementary School, are a community of lifelong learners, where students progress to their full potential, demonstrate respect for diversity and adhere to standards of excellence.

Motto: "On Course for Success" - "Rumbo al Éxito"

Welcome from the Principal

Principal, Rosalba Manrique

We are a community of eager learners from grades Pre-Kindergarten to Grade Five. Fair Avenue School has earned California Department of Education academic achievement honors for several years. We are a recipient of a California Distinguished School Award as well as two consecutive Title I Academic Achievement Awards. These honors acknowledge the hard work and devotion of our teachers and staff on behalf of the students and families of Fair Avenue Elementary.

Here, we strive to address the needs of the whole child and direct each student to become, not only academic achievers, but also valued citizens in our society. This theme is reiterated on a daily basis as we instill in our students the commitment to be: Respectful, Responsible and Safe!

Fair Avenue School provides students a well-rounded curriculum that includes weekly Music instruction for each student; hands-on experience in our Science Lab and NETS standards-based instruction on Apple, Inc. laptop and desktop computers in our state-of-the-art Computer Lab. Additionally, our students have the opportunity to participate in our School for Advanced Studies (G.A.T.E). Our cluster of gifted students, from grades K-5, receives in-depth instruction with a Fine Arts' focus. All of these programs, we are very proud to say, facilitate and invigorate Fair Avenue School's daily instruction.

It is a great honor and a pleasure to be a Principal of Fair Avenue Elementary School. I encourage you to visit us and see, first hand, what we are accomplishing here. We hope you will be pleasantly amazed.

Sincerely,

Rosalba Manrique, Principal

Fair Ave's Mariachi Arco Iris Performs for Carlos Santana

IMG_2109.jpgOn Monday, January 30, Fair Avenue students, who are members of our school's Mariachi band, Mariachi Arco Iris, performed at an event at North Hills' Carlos Santana Arts Academy. Soon after their arrival, as the students were tuning their instruments, Mr. Santana arrived and requested an impromptu performance by saying, "Show me what you got!", and show him they did!

The students were very excited to attend the event and perform, as our Music Teacher, Mr. John Balbuena, had prepared them to meet the great Carlos Santana himself. Mr. Balbuena instructed the students to research Mr. Santana's life's work before the event took place. Not only were they happily anticipating the event, but the parents were even more excited when thy found out that Carlos Santana would be attending.

Students brought their personal instruments to be signed by Carlos Santana. There were guitars, violins and trumpets. If they did not bring an instrument from home, Mr. Santana was gracious enough to sign the shirts on their backs! One of the girls said she will never wash that shirt and will take it home to frame.

The students performed personally for Mr. Santana and later on stage in front of everyone in attendance at the event. Many from the Press were their to capture the event as well, including the Los Angeles Daily News. To view Daily News photos of our students and Mr. Santana, click here or on the link below. The photos are also available for purchase through the Daily News.

Stay tuned this week for our upcoming video of our students' performance and more photos by our own school staff member.
